FIRST OBLIGATIONS FOR CRAFTSMEN AND ENTREPRENEURS

The Slovenian Centre for Circular Economy is organising training on the new EU regulation on packaging and packaging waste. We will present key innovations, obligations for companies and opportunities that the regulation brings for the transition to a circular economy.

The new EU Regulation on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR), which applies from 12 August 2026, gradually introduces new requirements for manufacturers, importers, distributors and other companies that place packaging or packaged products on the European Union market.

While not all obligations are introduced at the same time, companies need to know the timeline of change today and understand how the new requirements will affect their business. Craftsmen and entrepreneurs often wonder what obligations concern them already now and how to prepare for future requirements in a timely manner.

14.10-15.20The key changes brought about by the new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), especially in the light of sustainable design, reuse and packaging recyclability obligations, namely:

  • new obligations for manufacturers and distributors;
  • bans on certain types of packaging and transitional periods;
  • standards for recyclability and recycled content;
  • packaging reduction targets , and
  • Links to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
  • How to prepare in time for future legislative requirements

Special emphasis will be placed on the practical aspects of the implementation of the regulation, possible challenges for companies and the opportunities that the new legislation brings for the transition to a circular economy.
