SOLVIT overcomes all obstacles – The European Commission awarded the Slovenian center for excellent work
The Slovenian SOLVIT center received recognition from the European Commission for its dedicated and successful work in 2024. This recognition confirms the high professionalism, efficiency, and commitment of the team, which has been successfully helping individuals and businesses resolve complications with public authorities in other EU member states for many years.
Over the past year, the number of handled cases has increased again, while the rate of resolved complaints remained above average – as many as 92.3 percent of cases were successfully resolved in favor of the applicants.
What is SOLVIT?
SOLVIT is a network of the European Commission that provides free assistance to individuals and businesses when they encounter difficulties in exercising their rights in the EU single market – especially when a public authority in another country incorrectly applies European legislation. Instead of lengthy and expensive court proceedings, SOLVIT offers a fast, effective, and informal dispute resolution, with communication taking place primarily online.
The network operates in all EU member states, as well as in Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein. Each country has its own national SOLVIT center – in Slovenia, it operates within the Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport.
SOLVIT helps in cases such as:
- recognition of professional qualifications,
- obstacles to market access,
- access to social benefits,
- medical treatment abroad,
- VAT refunds,
- access to education for children in another EU country.
How does SOLVIT work?
When an individual or company finds themselves in trouble due to the incorrect application of EU law in another country, they can report their case to the Slovenian SOLVIT center. The center then contacts the relevant center in the country where the problem occurred. The SOLVIT centers then work in cooperation with the public authority in question to try to find a solution within 10 weeks. The entire process is free of charge, user-friendly, and informal for the applicant.
The Slovenian center team is known for quick responses, in-depth knowledge of legislation, and successful advocacy on behalf of users – a fact confirmed by the latest recognition from the European Commission for 2024.
Why is SOLVIT important?
The European Union’s Single Market offers citizens and businesses numerous opportunities to live, work, do business, and study anywhere in the European Union. However, due to the different legal regulations of individual member states, complications can quickly arise that prevent individuals and companies from exercising their rights. SOLVIT successfully overcomes these obstacles.
The Slovenian center remains a key pillar of support for users in eliminating cross-border administrative barriers and is an important part of the European SOLVIT network, which strengthens the functioning of the EU internal market and the legal security of all European citizens.
