
The Republic of Slovenia is strengthening its support environment for the development and use of advanced artificial intelligence technologies by establishing the Artificial Intelligence Competence Center (KCUI). The leading body of the KCUI will be the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, with our Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia also participating as a partner. The center will significantly contribute to the dissemination of knowledge, competencies, and AI technological solutions within the economy, research sphere, public sector, and broader society.
The Artificial Intelligence Competence Center will serve as a central entry point for accessing knowledge, infrastructure, consulting services, training, and information in the field of artificial intelligence. Its purpose is to strengthen the competitiveness of the Slovenian innovation ecosystem and enable organizations, companies, and research institutions to transition more rapidly from research to the practical application of AI technologies.
A consortium of partners with complementary expertise
The KCUI will operate as a consortium of partners with complementary expertise in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and innovation. The consortium includes the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science, the Jožef Stefan Institute, the University of Maribor, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia, the University of Primorska, Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies, the University of Nova Gorica, the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Law, and the ASEF Institute for Education and Research. As a hub of knowledge, technology, and experts, it will provide support for the development and implementation of AI solutions and foster collaboration among stakeholders. As the lead body, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia will be responsible for coordinating activities and transferring knowledge and technologies to the economy.
The main tasks and services of the center will include:
- organizational, financial and administrative management of the KCUI, as well as coordination of consortium partners and cooperation with relevant ministries,
- establishment of a comprehensive support environment and entry point for all stakeholders in the field of artificial intelligence,
- providing professional support by gathering, transferring and disseminating knowledge, training, consulting and transferring good practices,
- development and management of knowledge platforms, stakeholder databases and analytical support for the formulation and monitoring of policies and measures,
- connecting and networking stakeholders with the aim of strengthening cooperation, knowledge exchange and joint initiatives,
- international cooperation, promotion of the Slovenian AI ecosystem and raising awareness about technological, social, legal and ethical aspects of artificial intelligence,
- in-depth professional, educational and advisory support for the responsible, safe and effective implementation of artificial intelligence in the economy, public sector and society.
The establishment of the KCUI is part of national efforts to establish a comprehensive artificial intelligence ecosystem and represents the realization of the goals of the National Program for Artificial Intelligence. By increasing the accessibility of information and encouraging cooperation between stakeholders, the Center will contribute to the development, implementation and effective use of artificial intelligence and to raising the digital maturity of organizations in Slovenia.
