EU Awards for Gender Equality Champions in Research and Innovation

The award in the category of ‘Newcomer Institution’ was presented to the Jožef Stefan Institute for its significant progress in implementing a gender equality plan, which, among other things, established a framework for preventing gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and bullying.

The award in the category of ‘Sustainable Gender Equality Champions’ was presented to the University of Bielefeld in Germany for its thirty-year commitment to gender equality policy, which has transformed its institutional culture.

Another award recipient is the Open University of Catalonia in Spain, which received the recognition for more than fifteen years of promoting gender equality and for implementing its fifth gender equality plan.

The awards are presented to universities, higher education institutions, and other organizations that have excelled in promoting gender equality in research and innovation in Europe. Gender equality is a priority of the Horizon Europe program, and mandatory gender equality plans are a prerequisite for participation in the framework program.
