As part of the implementation of the European Union’s commitments under the Joint Statement of the European Union and the United States of America of 21 August 2025, regulations entered into force on 1 July suspending customs duties on imports of most products from the United States of America, with the exception of certain agricultural products subject to the suspension under tariff rate quotas. <\/div><\/div>

The Tariff Elimination Regulation<\/a> provides for the abolition of customs duties on imports of the products listed in Annex I to the Regulation. For the agricultural products listed in Annex II to the Regulation, only the ad valorem<\/span> part of the customs duty shall be abolished. However, the agricultural and processed agricultural products listed in Annex III to the Regulation are subject to the reduction or abolition of the tariff duty under the tariff quota. It is valid from July 1 to December 31, 2029. <\/p>

The Lobster Regulation<\/a> provides that customs duties on imports of live, frozen and processed lobsters, which are listed in the annex to the regulation, are 0 percent. The regulation applies retroactively, from August 1, 2025 to July 31, 2030. <\/p>

The Tariff Elimination Regulation empowers the European Commission to suspend the implementation of the Regulation if special circumstances arise, such as when the United States does not implement the Joint statements by the European Union and the United States of America of 21 August 2025 <\/a> or otherwise undermine the objectives of improving trade and investment relations between the European Union and the United States of America.<\/p>

The regulation on the elimination of customs duties also contains a safeguard clause which can suspend the implementation of the regulation in part or in whole in the event of increased imports from the United States of America and injury to the European Union industry.<\/p>

Regulation (EU) 2026\/1455 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 June 2026 adjusting customs duties on imports of certain goods originating in the United States of America and opening tariff quotas for imports of certain goods originating in the United States of America (Tariff Elimination Regulation) and Regulation (EU) 2026\/1461 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the non-application of customs duties on imports of certain goods (Lobster Regulation) were published in the Official Journal of the EU on 30 June 2026. <\/p>
